Do I need a visa to travel to Maldives?
- Tourists of all nationalities can enter the country with a 30-day free of charge Visa On Arrival.
What is the Maldivian currency?
- Maldivian Rufiyaa is the national currency of Maldives. It is commonly referred to as MVR (Maldivian Rufiyaa) or Rf (Rufiyaa).
Do I need to exchange currency?
- Most of the Hotels and Resort properties accept USD, GBP or EUR so there is minimal need to worry about currency exchange.
- If required, there is a Bank of Maldives Foreign Exchange Counter at the airport, which is visible as you approach the Arrival Hall at the Velana International Airport.
Do I need a pre-booking arrival to Maldives?
- You are required to show proof of a booking, return tickets, funds and emergency contact information as part of Immigration Checks, upon your arrival to the Maldives.
- This applies for transit travellers passing through the destination, as well.
What are the precautions I should take before visiting?
- Make sure your passport has at least one-month validity pre-arrival.
- Traveler Declaration form must be submitted electronically prior to your arrival, through the IMUGA (Immigration website) before 96 hours of departure.
Important carry-ons for the journey?
- Sunscreen is a must! Maldives experiences high-temperatures throughout the day, sometimes racing up to 32 Degree Celcius.
- It is equally important to bring waterproof bags or pouches to protect electronic equipment and other valuables.
- Waterproof bags are important as you get onboard excursion boats, to store all your electronic valuables and stay connected, till you get back on the island.
- It is important to bring comfortable footwear and light clothing for the warm tropical weather.
- A medical kit should be carried in case of emergencies, although these will usually be provided in most hotels, wherever the guests are transported.

When is the best time to spot Manta Rays in Maldives?
- Manta Rays can be spotted in vast numbers at the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Hanifaru Bay (Baa Atoll) on the eastern front, especially during the full moon, within the months of June through October.
- On the other hand, they can also be spotted from December to March in the western outskirts of atolls. In South Ari Atoll manta sightings peak around the months of February to April.
- In the south of Maldives, known as Seenu Atoll, manta rays can be spotted year-round. In fact, it is an exceptional scuba diving destination where mantas, with a wingspan of 5meters are known to be spotted.
