Maldives Wins Big at the 2025 World Travel Awards
It’s official that the Maldives has once again proven why it’s one of the most loved destinations in the world.
At this year’s World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony, held on June 28 at Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Maldives took home two major awards:
- Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2025
- Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2025

This isn’t the first time the Maldives has been in the spotlight. In fact, the country has won Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination for six years in a row – from 2020 to 2025. It’s also the second time the Maldives has taken home the Leading Green Destination award, a title that reflects the nation’s growing focus on sustainability and eco-friendly travel.
Accepting the awards on behalf of the Maldives was MMPRC’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, who shared how meaningful this recognition is:
“These accolades highlight the Maldives’ position as an unmatched tourist destination and our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for travellers around the world.”
